The Story Behind Groovy Duck Bakery
The first Groovy Duck has been part of Raleigh since 2012. JP and Laura took over that bakery in 2022 and gave it a full remodel, bringing a more modern, high-quality bakery experience while keeping a friendly, neighborhood feel. And they are bringing the same to Apex!
You may be wondering like I was… what is the story behind the name Groovy Duck?
JP says the name came from the original owner, who loved the idea of something fun and memorable, and they decided to keep it because it makes people smile, and now the duck has become a local favorite.
Groovy Duck Bakery’s Offerings
The new bakery will feature chunky cookies, cupcakes, muffins, scones, pretzels, bars, a variety of bread loaves, decorated shortbread cookies, and custom cakes—all baked fresh daily.
They will do special and holiday orders for both individuals and businesses.
The bakery is expected to be open Tuesday through Sunday, 8am to 6pm, similar to their Raleigh schedule.
What Makes it So… Groovy?
When I asked JP how he would describe the Groovy Duck Bakery, he said, “We’re all about bringing a fun, welcoming energy to the community—a place where families, friends, and neighbors can stop by, grab something sweet, and feel at home.”
“Everything we bake is made from scratch using natural ingredients, giving every treat that fresh, homemade feel. We’re really excited to become part of the Apex community.”
Until the grand opening in early 2026, all that’s left to do is count down the days—and dream of that first bite!
Upcoming Job Opportunities
